Have you even wondered what WordPress theme, or plugin, a website is using?
Don’t have the time or budget to try out endless free and premium themes?
You have probably seen an awesome blog or website and are itching to know how you can get that theme for your website (which will save you hours of time in creating or customizing your own theme). Well, I have the answer for you!
Of course sometimes the developer kindly puts in it the footer of the site (yes, mine is there if you are curious and want to know which WordPress theme I use 😉 ) but most of the time it involves going and poking around the source code (which is great if you know what you are looking for!) and I freely admit that I sometimes struggle to find what I am looking for in the source code!
There is another way! Here I have listed some cool free tools which help you find what you are looking for!
WP Theme Detector
If you want to find out the WordPress theme or plugins that a website uses the WPThemeDetector is a website that will give you that information. It is easy to use. All you have to do is:
Go to the WP Theme Detector website and enter the domain name of website that you are interested in their URL search box click the ‘Experience the magic of WPTD’ button and it will pull information from the active theme for you, plus also the plugins that are installed too! (How cool is that?)
How Do I Know If a Website Is Using WordPress?
If you are not sure if the website is using WordPress or not then first have a look at the footer of the site and it may say ‘Proudly Powered By WordPress’. If is doesn’t (and the developer can removed it if they wish to) then you can either look at the source code (groan) or you can install a browser extension such as Appspector for Chrome or Wappalyzer for Firefox (these are add-ons for your browser which give it extra functions) and these will tell you what Content Management System is being used for the website.
